Privacy Policy

blip is a casual, local-events discovery app that helps you find what's happening near you, wherever you are. This policy explains what personal information blip collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the app.

Information we collect

Account. Your email address and a password, used to create and sign in to your account. Your password is stored securely (hashed) by our authentication provider and is never visible to us.
Profile. Your public @username, a display name, your account type (personal or business), and an optional short bio. This information is public to other users so they can see who posted an event.
Approximate location. With your permission, the app reads your device location to show events near you. Your location is kept on your device; it is sent to our server only as map coordinates to look up nearby events, and is not stored against your account.
Content you create. Events you post (title, description, category, venue name, address, date and time), any event photos you upload (which may include embedded metadata such as the location where the photo was taken), and the events you save as favourites.
Safety actions. Reports and blocks you submit, so we can moderate the service and keep blocked users out of your view.

How we use your information

To provide the core service: discovering, posting, and saving events.
To show you who posted an event (your public @username and name).
To keep the community safe: handling reports, blocks, and removing content that breaks our rules.
To operate, maintain, and improve the app.

How your information is shared

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use advertising trackers. Your information is shared only:

Publicly within the app — your @username, display name, bio, and any events and photos you post are visible to other users (that is the point of the app).
With our service provider, Supabase, which hosts our database, authentication, and file storage on servers located in Canada. Supabase processes this data on our behalf.
With Google (Places API) — when you type a venue or address while creating an event, that text is sent to Google to return location suggestions. Google processes it as our service provider.
Product analytics (PostHog) — we use PostHog on both the website and the mobile app to understand how the product is used (for example, screens viewed and actions like creating an event), so we can improve it. This measures aggregate usage; PostHog processes it on our behalf on servers located in the United States. We do not sell it.
When you choose to share — using the share button hands an event link to your device's own share sheet (e.g. messages, social apps). We don't control where you send it.
When required by law — if we must comply with a valid legal request.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Account → Delete account inside the app, or by following the steps on our account deletion page. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, your events, your uploaded event photos, your saved favourites, and your reports and blocks. Some records may persist briefly in encrypted backups before being overwritten.

Children

blip is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices

You can edit or remove your profile details at any time in the app.
You can revoke location permission in your device settings; the app still works and shows events from anywhere.
You can delete your account and all associated data (see above).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
